Valdez
We finally and happily picked up the rv on Monday and left straight away for Valdez. Got there late afternoon, after a drive on not so smooth roads and navigating some construction. We set up camp then walked around town. Didn’t take very long since it’s a pretty tiny town. But Jamie found some friends along the way as you’ll see from the pictures. For whatever reason rabbits run rampant in Valdez. We ended up at a local bar when we heard a musician playing in there. Big surprise. Then, of course, after a few beers our plans to grill some of our halibut went by the wayside and we ate some appetizers there for dinner.
Next day we took a ride to Worthington glacier which is about a half hour from Valdez unless you hit that same construction they were doing on our way in. So in our case about 45 minutes. It’s a really nice hike of about a mile or so each way up to the glacier which was really beautiful. After our hike we drove to the fishery and watched thousands of salmon leaping around in the water. I stood on a rock in my bare feet, yes the water was very cold, thinking it would be pretty cool to catch one with my hands. Of course, when I went to grab it I slipped and ended up in the water. Jamie got a video but for some reason I can’t find it. That was the end of my bare handed fishing. That night we had our halibut and called it a night.
Tons of salmon swimming
