Top of the Rock museum

The afternoon was spent at the Top of the Rock museum. Apparently, Johnny Morris, the owner of Bass Pro and owner of this property is very big into collecting bits of history and he’s taken this to a level that rivals any big museum with virtually unlimited funds. He’s also into preserving the land and native American history. He even has lockets of hair from presidents Washington and Lincoln! Most of the pictures require some explanation so I either took pictures of the signs or added captions. I know there are alot of pictures to go through but his collection is really worth your time.

After going through the museum we were heading to their wine cellar for a drink but were stopped and told we had to go back down to the museum (which was located in the basement) because a tornado had touched down not far from our location! So back down we go and had to stay there for almost an hour before being allowed back up. From there we finally got our glasses of wine and had dinner in their restaurant.

But our interesting day wasn’t finished. We got home just in time before the rain really started coming down. It started around 8pm and just kept coming and coming. We went to bed and at 1am we got a knock on our door telling us we had to move to a higher part of the campground because the river was beginning to overflow. So we packed up the inside, unhooked our water and electrics and moved along with a dozen other coaches. I even left my hoses at our site figuring we’d be back in the morning. So back to sleep we go and at 3am, you guessed it, another knock telling us we have to evacuate the campground and move up to a parking lot up the street. I should have taken a picture of all the rv’s crammed into the lot but I did take a picture of our camp site under water the next morning. I had to put my waders on to go get our hoses and bicycles. The picture at the end of the post is (was) our campsite.

Now mind you all this is taking place a day and a half before we’re scheduled to leave for Hawaii for a week for the annual Continental Airlines golf outing. So the following day was spent finding a new campground at a much higher elevation, setting up camp, then packing to get ready to leave the next day. As I said, a very interesting day.
