The Inca trail. Day 1

The Inca trail. Day 1

After breakfast we met Luis at 9 am for our trek to the Inca trail. It was about a 45 min drive to the starting point. There’s a check point everyone has to pass through and show tickets and passports as they only allow a certain number to pass through per day. It took us about 15 min to get through and as you can see from the pictures we jumped right into it. You cross a bridge and up the hill you go. Keep in mind we’re already starting at over 10,000′ so we’re out of breath before we even start. I think other than us and our guide (who was 61!) There wasn’t anyone else I saw over 40. After about an hour and a thousand foot climb or so Jamie got a nosebleed! She sat for a bit and cleaned things out and thankfully she was ok and never had a problem after that. Mountain bike crashes, nose bleeds, she’s my tough girl lol. We hiked for about 2 hours then had our first lunch prepared by our personal chef. Wow were we in for a shock. First we had some kind of fresh made soup that was delicious. Followed by fresh trout, again delicious. Followed by fresh sliced pears in some kind of sweet syrup. It was actually too much food and I don’t think anyone finished it all but it really was a great lunch. Of course, I wanted to nap after that lol. But onto the hike we went.

We hiked for another 3-4 hours stopping here and there to see some amazing ruins. We reached our campsite and the porters were already there with our tents and everything all set up. Man do they work hard. They do the same hike as us but with about 50+ pounds on their backs. They even had warm bowls of water in front of our tents to wash up. Nice. The chef prepared some fried wontons filled with cheese and popcorn to hold us over till dinner. Did I think I was gonna lose weight on this trip? I forget what dinner was but, again, it was delicious. We had a fairly early start the next day and our guide warned us it would bee the most difficult day so after a couple night caps we hit the hay, I mean sleeping bags.
