The Hot Brown and Louisville Slugger Museum

The Hot Brown and Louisville Slugger Museum

Thursday was another rainy day so we stuck to more indoor things. We started out going to the Brown Hotel for lunch. They make a “famous” sandwich called the Hot Brown which was a runner up on the show “Best Sandwiches of America”, one of Jim’s list of things to experience on our journey. The Brown Hotel is an historic hotel built in 1923. It’s hosted many famous people here for the derby and the movie Elizabethtown was filmed here in 2005. Of course, we tried a couple of their famed drinks. Jim had the Kentucky mule, a mule made with bourbon, and Jamie had the Brown derby, a drink made with bourbon, grapefruit juice, and honey syrup. The sandwich and drinks were delicious.

From there we went to the Louisville Slugger museum. That was a really enjoyable tour. They walked us through the history of the company, the bat making process of old and new, an explanation of how they assign model numbers to the bats based on the name of the professional player that they created it for, and all the players that they have made bats for. They had many bats used by many famous players current and historic. They had a few bats used by players that you could hold and get your picture with. Jim had his picture taken with Daryll Strawberry of the Mets, of course. They also had a batting cage which Jim tried. And I did pretty good if I must say so myself! Lol.

After the museum we headed home for a relaxing evening.
