Swimming with the manatees

Swimming with the manatees

On January 12th we checked off one of our must do own. In a town called Crystal River they have a river that the manatees migrate to during the winter for warmth. It’s somewhat regulated but you can actually swim with them and many times they’ll come right up to you. Jamie has a thing for manatees (that and sea turtles) so she was really excited about this one. We decided to book a tour although you can do it on your own. We figured they would know the best places to find them. We definitely weren’t disappointed and we definitely were glad we took a tour. The water was very cold and they provided wet suits which we desperately needed. Not the 80 degree water we prefer. We got up close and personal with many manatees and really enjoyed the trip.

After that we went to a wildlife park called Homosassa Springs wildlife park. They had a 60 year old hippo named Lu, some birds and a few other animals. It was ok.
