Seattle
We drove into Seattle today. First on our list was lunch at one of the places on our best sandwiches of America list. Since it’s been a while that we’ve been to one of those I’ll explain this one again. There was a show back in 2012 on the travel channel called Adam Richman’s best sandwich of America. He took recommendations from all over America on people’s favorite sandwiches, then broke the country down into regions, then went to each shop and picked a winner from each region and finally chose an overall winner which was Tommy Dinikc’s roast pork sandwich in Philadelphia. Which we already had and was delicious. Anyway we enjoyed the show and just for fun decided to hit each of the shops that made it into his brackets for each region.
This restaurant was Salumi in Seattle and their signature sandwich is a braided oxtail sandwich. We got there only to find out they rarely have that sandwich anymore because I guess it’s too expensive to make and they weren’t getting enough demand for it. So we went with their Pancetta sandwich which as you can see from the picture was piled high in pork. It was delicious. Next sandwich stop will be in Portland, Oregon at the place that beat Salumi.
After lunch we headed to Pike place market, a famous fish market that sells all kinds of produce and other stuff. They are also known for their “fish throw” as you’ll see in the video where they toss a fish back and forth when someone purchases one. We spent a couple hours there which included a beer at an outdoor cafe overlooking the bay.
Called it a day and headed home to pack for our month long departure from the motor home. Dropping it off at Freightliner to have them go over a couple of things. Overnighting at a hotel so Jamie can catch a flight in the morning. She had to go for a day of training in Houston. My plans for tomorrow are a round of golf at Chambers Bay gc which was where they played the US Open in 2015.
