On to Whitefish
I’m combining a bunch of posts here because I didn’t take any pictures for a few days.
Our last day in Polson we headed to Flathead lake with our inflatable kayak and kayaked around the lake for three hours. We were actually trying to go to some island called horse island where there are some wild horses running around but after an hour and a half we ended up at the wrong island! Fortunately Jamie packed us some “rationings” so we stopped for some refreshments but gave up on finding horse island and rowed an hour and a half home.
We were only gonna spend 4 days here since we wanted to head towards Alaska but we decided that we were pushing things a bit since it was already the middle of August and it was gonna take us a week to get there. Between travel time, work and wanting to be out of Alaska by the third week in September we really were limiting our time there. So instead we decided to extend our stay in Montana and drive a little further north and be closer to glacier park so we could spend more time there. We found an rv park in Whitefish, Mt. It was only 25 min from the park and also had more to do there and we ended up extending our stay to a week. We got to the Whitefish campground. Not one of our nicer choices but we made do. Very small place, bad Wi-Fi, bad tv reception. That evening they had a street market so we went and walked around that then had a bit then called it quits.
Wednesday was spent doing some “home” stuff. We decided we were gonna splurge for satellite tv so we went out shopping. We ended up buying all the equipment without any research then got home and after some research decided we wanted to go with a different antennae so brought back the one we got and ordered a new one through Amazon but had to wait till we could get the new one delivered to the next campground. That’s the very short version to a long story.
Wednesday we drove along the “road to the sun” again since the first time we only had time to drive across half of it. This time we drove all the way to the eastern side of the park and came home along the southern part. We also hiked about 5 miles up a pretty good rise. Every time we rounded a curve up the trail we thought we had come to the end only to find out there was more to go. But we made it all the way to the top and were pretty proud of ourselves. Didn’t see much wildlife but did see a moose.
Thursday we went to Whitefish ski resort. On top of being a great ski resort they do a great job turning it into a summer resort. There is hiking, zip lines, a tree adventure course, a ride up the ski lift to the top of the mountain, a bobsled type run and downhill mountain biking. We rode to the top of the mountain on the ski lift and had a couple of beers and enjoyed the view. After we decided to look into the downhill mountain biking for the next day. Jamie’s idea, not mine, lol. They offered bike and equipment rentals and instruction if you choose. I didn’t think I needed instruction on how to ride a bike but Jamie wanted it so I went along with it and we booked for the next day.
I didn’t take alot of pictures for some reason.
