Olympic Peninsula – Hurricaine Ridge & Marymer
Yesterday was a planning and admin day. I handeled some of our administrative stuff and handed over the planning of our week to Jamie.
So the next day we put Jamie’s plan to action. We headed over to Olympic peninsula via the ferry. We weren’t aware if this but apparently you can take your motor home on it. We even met another couple pulling their 2016 pace arrow so we swapped some stories and advice.
After passing through port Townsend our first stop was Hurricane ridge. Story goes some guy back in the 1800’s was on top of the peak in heavy winds and made some comment about it being like a hurricane and it stuck. Can’t vouch for that one. Anyway it was a beautiful mile and a half hike from the visitor center up to sunrise point and back and we got some great shots of the mountains and a glacier. The peak was 5200′.
From there we went to lake Crescent and hiked to Marymere Falls. That was a very nicely laid out trail 2 miles round trip to a waterfall. Not spectacular but we had a nice hike.
Then we headed to Port Angeles to the bed and breakfast Jamie booked. This place was fantastic. The inn keepers greeted us at the door and got us settled into our room, gave us a quick tour then provided us with some appetizers and wine and soft drinks. The flatbread was delicious. The views out the window were beautiful and it was right on the water. The bedroom was large with a fireplace and huge bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub, large vanity and separate shower. All kinds of amenities were provided. After happy hour we showered up and went to dinner at an Italian restaurant called Bella Italia, a place that was used for some filming of the Twilight movie. Quaint place, average food.
