Olympic Peninsula-Cape Flattery & Hoh rain forest
Woke up for breakfast today which was served at 9:00. A little early for Jamie but she made it, lol. It was superb. I had some kind of butternut squash pancakes that were some of the best pancakes I ever had and Jamie had eggs with spinach and hollandaise sauce that were also superb.
After breakfast we checked out and headed for Cape Flattery, the furthest northwest point in the 48 states. Another mile hike out to the tip on another nicely laid out trail. Again, not spectacular but now we’ve hit the most southeastern and northeastern corners of the 48.
From there we went to the Hoh rain forest which is another national park full of spruce, sitka and fir trees many of which were 200-300′. In there was also the Hall of Moses. Basically a bunch of trees with moss growing on them. We did another 2-3 mile hike you can see pictures of. Some things we did learn was alot of these huge trees fall down and take others with them. Over the years other trees will grow on them. The fallen tree eventually decomposes and that’s why you see trees standing on roots that you can see through on the bottom. On the way out we saw some elk on the side on the road.
That night we stayed in Fork, which is the town that the movie Twilight took place in. They used the Forks high school for some of the school filming. Not much of a town and not great places to stay but Jamie found us a decent place to stay.
