New Mexico!!!

On our way to Albuquerque we stopped in Truth or Consequences. For all you old folks you know the name. For you young ones it was originally a radio game show then became a tv show that ran from 1940-1988.

The town was originally called Hot Springs, known for it’s……you guessed it, hot springs. But in 1950 the show’s host announced they would broadcast their 10th anniversary show from the first town willing to change it’s name to Truth or Consequences. Hot Springs figured they’d get more tourism and money so they jumped on it and, hence, the name. Anyway we had lunch at this little lunch spot called the Grapevine Bistro. They had some unique sandwiches such as Jamie’s grilled cheese. Which was Cheddar and Jack cheese on Jalapeno bread then cooked with Parmesan cheese on top and bottom to create a crispy coating on the outside. It was wonderful. I had a ham sandwich with tomato, bacon, lettuce and the town’s locally produced jam on a croissant. That was equally wonderful. Point is, they didn’t serve your typical lunch shop sandwiches and we really enjoyed it.

From there we drove to Albuquerque, set up camp at Kirkland AFB, then met up with Jamie’s stepdad and mom, Jim and Kathy. We had a very nice dinner with them at an Italian restaurant and came home and crashed. The campsite at Kirkland isn’t quite as nice as some of the other military campsites we’ve stayed at but the sites are nice and big and for $18 per night it’s perfect.
