Biloxi, Day 1
From Houston we left for Biloxi, Mississippi. We’d been through Mississippi when we first started our trip but didn’t spend any time there because we were making a mad dash for New Orleans to make it there for Mardi Gras. So we consider this our first time in Mississippi. We’ll be hitting some of northern parts of the state later in the spring so for now we were just visiting Biloxi.
It was about a 6-7 hour drive and we needed to fuel up and get some propane so we decided to make a 2 day drive out of it. We found a casino about halfway there in Lake Charles, La that allows rv parking so that sounded like a good option. They had a full hook up for $25 but we decided we didn’t need it for one night so we parked in their free dry camping lot. It was perfect. We didn’t need to unhook and we had a great dinner and gave them some money in the casino.
We left the next morning and got into Biloxi early afternoon. They have a very nice campground at Keesler Afb so that’s where we stayed. The next morning set out exploring. We weren’t really sure what to expect from Biloxi but we were pleasantly surprised. It’s a cute little beachy town with a bunch of casinos. Definitely our kind of place. First stop was the visitor center where we got some info on the town along with ideas of what to do/see. After that we just drove around a bit and walked on the beach till dinner time.
For dinner we got a great recommendation for a place called the Old French House. The restaurant is in an old home that was believed to have been built in 1737 and became a restaurant in 1962 opened by a woman named Mary Mahoney and since passed down to her kids. She has served many famous people including presidents even serving her meals at the Whitehouse. I included some pictures from inside the restaurant below.
