Minneapolis

Minneapolis

We returned from our traveling on October 1st and decided it was starting to get cold so we kept our visit in Minneapolis short. Planning to start heading south we packed a full day of sightseeing into the following day.
We started at the mall of America. For those of you not familiar it’s the largest mall in America built in 1992 with an indoor theme park with a large roller coaster and, of course, every store you can imagine. We had lunch, walked around there for a little bit then it was off to see St Paul’s cathedral. On the way we passed the state capital that had memorials to fallen firefighters and a military memorial. Walked there for a short time then off to the cathedral which was built in 1915 and was beautiful. Next to the cathedral was a street with big old homes built on the Mississippi river so we walked along that road and checked them out.
From there we drove to an old railroad bridge turned pedestrian bridge that someone recommended we see. Nothing exciting but a nice place for people to bike and walk over the Mississippi. There were some cool underground canals that were built in the 1800’s to provide water power mainly for the flour mills that were built along the river.
It started to rain so we figured that was our calling to head to one of Minneapolis’ breweries. The one most people recommended was called Surly. It’s a very large brewery with a nice outdoor area and windows from a large bar area overlooking the brewing room. Great beer and a nice facility. After that we had some dinner and headed home to prepare for our departure the next day.
