Macdill

Macdill

We were only able to get the site in Clearwater for a month so we had to move in the middle of November. We didn’t have another reservation and Jamie needed to continue with her physical therapy so Macdill AFB has a section that they rotate people through that didn’t deserve a year in advance. You start in their dry camp area, then move to the electric only area when a spot opens, then to the full hookup sites when a spot opens and you keep that for 2 weeks. We decided to give that a shot and it worked out fine. We were in a full hookup sites within a couple of days.

One of our exploring days we checked off another of Jim’s list of best sandwiches in America with a great little place called Skipper’s Smokehouse for their blackened grouper Rueben sandwich. Not one of the best but they didn’t win the show either but it was good. Definitely a cool little dive place with interesting décor and a great outdoor patio with a stage for live music in the back.

We also had a great meal at restaurant called Bern’s Steakhouse. I don’t remember the numbers and story but this place has the largest wine selection in some category in the world. I think it’s the largest private selection or something like that. Anyway, the wine list alone should give you an idea as to the impressiveness of their wine selection.
