Kansas City
After Westin we had to go back to work but Jamie got sick and ended up staying home so only Jim went to work. Jamie was feeling better when Jim returned so we headed into downtown Kansas City to check it out. First thing we hit since there didn’t seem to be a whole lot to see in town was the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures. It had all kinds of miniature toys along with classics from over the decades. It wasn’t anything special but was kind of cool seeing old toys from our youths. From there we walked around the plaza which is a shopping, dining and entertainment area. They have a first Friday of the month festival every month with music and food trucks, etc. but there wasn’t much to it since it was starting to get cold. We stopped at a couple bars for cocktails including one really cool one down in a restaurant basement called Manifesto. Some people might be put off by it as they mostly made very unusual drinks although they would make a standard if they had the ingredients. They also discouraged cell phone use. It was very unique and we loved it. We then went to dinner at a place in Union Station that was recommended to us for a fantastic meal then called it a night.
The next day we decided there wasn’t a whole lot more to see in town so we went to a movie and dinner at one of the higher rated bbq restaurants in town called Jack Stack’s since Kansas City is well known for it’s bbq. It was very good but I’m not sure it was any better than bbq I’ve had other places. We did hear about another place called Arthur Bryant’s Bbq that is where Kansas City bbq supposedly started and has served many famous people. We’re hoping to get there before leaving Kansas but that may not happen.
