Grand Canyon caverns and ghost tour
Monday we were leaving for Vegas but had heard about some caves called the grand canyon caverns that were just under halfway there with an rv park so we decided to spend the night and check them out. They had numerous different tours from a very basic walk through along paved paths to a very intense tour climbing through narrow passages into parts of the cave many people don’t get to see. I’m sure you know which one we opted for. Jamie’s such a trooper. We met up with our guide and suited up with helmets with a flashlight on them, knee pads and elbow pads and off we went. First you had to go down an elevator 210′, then you started right off climbing down a 20-30′ rock hill and then it was all crawling through crevices to other rooms throughout the cave. We really enjoyed that. The cave was used as a potential bomb shelter years ago and there are still supplies that were stored there. They also have a room down there set up for people that want to do an over night. Uh, no, even I’m not that adventurous.
We went home and took showers in preparation for our next tour, the ghost tour. Yes, allegedly the caves are haunted. Only God knows why we do these things. I don’t really believe in ghosts and most of the time these things are very hokey.
So you go back down the elevator into the cave again with a guide, at night of course, with all the lights off. We have flashlights but when they’re off you can’t see a thing. Our guide, Dino (you can’t make this stuff up) is what I would describe as one of those goofy ghost hunter types that’s totally into it. He starts off by showing us a couple of videos on his phone of “orbs” he’s caught on camera. I have no idea what an orb is and all I see on his video is a very faint light moving around that could be anything. He then tells us why the place is haunted. The original discoverer of the caves found some Indian bones that were part of a burial ground and he moved them around and sold tours claiming they were cavemen skeletons. Good move, bud. I take all this with a grain of salt and off we go.
A little background on the cave first. It’s a totally dry cave with no moisture and nothing living in it. You’re well underground and the only sounds come from whoever is down there. We go down the elevator and he locks it open so it won’t go up and no one else can come down. We start out about 100′ from the entrance in an area he says he’s caught some orbs on video and he starts calling out to any spirits to show themselves. Jamie and I are quietly laughing behind his back. Then Jamie says she hears water dripping. Dino and I don’t hear it at first but he gets very excited and says he’s never heard that but other people have told him they heard it. I also start to hear it but he never does. He is taking pictures with his phone and had it set to take a short video with each picture. I happen to have my phone and start taking pictures but can’t figure out how to do that setting so I just start taking videos. I do see some dust reflecting off my flash but the next thing I know I see a very defined circular light fly at me. You can’t see it with the bare eye but through my camera screen it’s very evident. Dino gets very excited at that point. Moving on, throughout the tour I catch about a half dozen of these things. We also heard a girls voice that I caught on one of the videos but you can only hear it very faintly if you have a headset on. Dino explains to us a girl was killed on route 66 near the caves and that very occasionally he’s heard her voice. He also mentions one of the orbs he’s seen comes with a click when it shows. We didn’t hear it at the time but on my videos you can hear a distinct click when some of the the orbs appear. At one point we also hear a noise like metal banging. In my head I’m thinking this is all staged and they have some kind of speaker system down there but I have to admit I’m a little spooked and ready to get out of there. We leave and Dino is besides himself that we got to see and hear some of the things we did because sometimes people don’t see or hear anything.
We went back to our rv just a bit shaken and practically the only ones in a pitch black campground.
Not that I’m a believer but there is a click and some kind of white orb 30 seconds into the video
