Ghost Town & Sunset Horse Ride
Everyday this week we went riding around Big Bend half the day and other activities the other half. Rather than group the pictures by day I decided to group them by category. Especially since we took so many in Big Bend. So the dates on the pictures may not coincide with that day’s post. In fact, the pictures I have of Teralingua are during the day. A little easier to see. 🙂
Today’s pictures are of our sunset horseback ride and our night in the “ghost” town of Teralingua. Starting with the horseback ride that was fantastic. We rode through some pretty rugged and steep terrain to a point on a hill to watch a spectacular sunset with wine, beer, cheese and crackers. Then we rode back in the dark. I’m hardly a pro on a horse having only ridden 5-10 times in my life but I made it through a couple of tense moments and had a great time. Jamie of course did great and loved it.
Teralingua was an interesting town. Many years ago it was a thriving mining town but when the mines dried up so did the town. It has now become a place for people wanting to escape society. The town actually had a news worthy moment a few years ago and was a featured on a national geographic series. So we’re sitting in a bar, imagine that, chatting with the bartender, imagine that, about the area and town. Of course, anyone that knows us knows we get all our knowledge and information in bars. The bartender tells us about a very rare murder of one of the town’s bar owners that took place a few years ago. He mentions they made a documentary and we’re asking (ok I’m asking, the one with the big mouth) all kinds of questions and he points to some old guy down the bar and says he’s been here forever and knows all about it and was even part of the documentary. So of course I slide down, buy him a beer, and spend the evening chatting with him. Anyway for those that don’t have a life I posted the YouTube links to the show’s preview and first episode. I think there were 8 episodes.
