Finally Left California
We left Monterey on July 12 and for now said goodbye to California after 2 months here. But we’ll be back, it’s such a huge state there’s still more for us to see!
The drive to Utah took 2 days. It was a beautiful ride through lots of mountains, which Bridget struggled slightly through. Hence the reason for a later post. She did pretty good making it over the mountains but the engine got a little hot. To the point that we had to pull over once to let her cool down.
Jamie did some research and found that if we didn’t use the cruise control and down shifted early to keep the rpms up that would help and it did significantly. We didn’t have any trouble after that. Keep in mind she’s loaded up to max weight with the jeep and all our stuff.
Anyway we passed through Reno and the salt fields of Utah on the way which neither of us have seen before. Many people write things in the salt fields along the road so Jim pulled over and wrote or names. What a romantic.
We pulled into the Hill AFB campground late afternoon on the 13th. The spaces are kind of tight but it’s a beautiful base and area as you can see from the pictures. We like it here.
Update: Although downshifting over the mountains did help keep the engine cool I now believe our problem was a faulty cooling fan. We never found out because we ended up trading her in before having her looked at. When we got our new coach you could really hear the fan kicking in when climbing hills and I realized I never heard that from the old coach so I feel that was our problem.
