Drive east
We left western South Dakota for Fargo on the eastern side of the state. Did the drive in one day as there’s not much to see in between. We did come up with one interesting gem along the way, though. It’s called the enchanted highway. Some school teacher and self taught scrap metal artist created giant scrap metal sculptures and put them along a minor highway and now it’s “enchanted”. It’s about a 30 mile drive from one end to the other and it was kinda cool what he did. At the end he built a hotel in the form of a castle out of an old school he bought and called it the Enchanted Castle. That was pretty cool, as well. You can see how he took the class rooms and made them into hotel rooms and the gym was continued as a gym with a sauna room and hot tub added. He also added a bar, restaurant and front desk all in the medieval theme. He even has a separate gift shop in town. All this is in the middle of nowhere so I doubt he’s gonna have much success but it was pretty impressive what he created. We went in and he was doing some maintenance so we got to meet him. Pretty interesting guy.
There was also a roadside attraction called Salem Sue. Supposedly the world’s largest cow statue. We pulled over for a picture. A waste of time.
We ended up in Fargo that evening where we set up camp.
