Destrehan Plantation

Destrehan Plantation

Thursday was spent recovering, again. Jamie went out and got some girly stuff done and I gave our rv some downtime loving. Cleaning and minor repairs, that is. We also fulfilled our vows to stay in shape on this trip. I went to the base gym and Jamie actually found one of her dance studios right there in town that she went to. Jamie also made a great roast in the crockpot that we enjoyed for dinner.

Friday it was back to reality. We both flew from New Orleans airport up to Newark for work.

We got back from work Monday morning and decided not to waste any time resting. Well, I decided and Jamie being the trooper she is went along with it. We had lunch and went to Destrehan plantation for a tour. It’s a sugar plantation built in 1787 and the oldest documented house in the lower Mississippi river valley. Films and tv shows that were filmed here include Interview with a Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, Monster’s Ball, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, 12 Years a Slave. It was ok, not something I’d go out of my way to see. Also picked up some alligator jerky, yum. After that we went out to dinner and called it a night.

I love the trees down here

Dinner bell? Lol. Actually I think it was a warning bell for disasters
