Deadwood

Deadwood

One of our days we went to Deadwood, Sd. This is a place we had visited on our last trip to Sturgis back before we started this Rv adventure but it’s a place we could visit over and over again. Deadwood was a town that was illegally established back in the 1870’s. Illegal because it was on territory that was granted to the Lakota Indians just a few years prior. But gold was discovered in the area and that was the end of that treaty.
Along with the gold rush the town is known for some famous people that visited as well as died there. Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane are both buried there. You really feel like you’re back in time in the old west when you’re there and we love it. Last time we were there we ate at the Maverick Steakhouse which was owned by Jamie’s other boyfriend, Kevin Costner. Of course she wanted to eat there again but unfortunately it was closed. Apparently there’s some kind of litigation going on with it. So we had lunch at the Buffalo Bodega saloon, which was originally established in 1877. This place also has some amazing history as I’m sure you can imagine. The original owner was good friends with Buffalo Bill Cody. We also met one of Jim’s friends here. He was a retired United pilot that happened to be up from Colorado for a few days of the rally.
On the way home we stopped at another great bar called the Boar’s nest. Just some more interesting décor like a lot of the places we’ve been to.
The town of Deadwood has such an interesting history I am including a link to read about it for those that having nothing better to do.

Downtown Deadwood

How’s that for a bar name?
A large bust of Abe on the side of the road
A cool bar in the middle of nowhere called the Boar’s Nest
Some rusted out old car full of forgotten trophies

The Boar’s Nest
Jamie’s new boyfriend

And here I’ve always thought they were called outhouses
