Day 2 – Drive from Pensacola to New Orleans
We made it to our second campsite on Saturday, Aviation Arbor RV park on a Joint Reserve base/Naval Air Station. This is the second military site we stayed in and, again, we were pleasantly surprised. Nice wide spaces with concrete pads and full service for $20 per night. Add to that a commissary, bx, gym and $1.50 beers at the club right around the corner and what more could we ask for!
The original campsite we were going to stay in (which was $200/night) was within walking distance to Bourbon St. The base we stayed at was almost 30 min away. That meant either driving in, bad idea for us at Mardi Gras, or a taxi. We had no problem taking a taxi (or a $20 Uber car in our case) except they couldn’t come on base to pick us up. That meant we rode our bikes to the front gate and then back to the campsite after maybe more than a few drinks. But it was worth the price and also the security of staying on base as opposed to a questionable area downtown.
I do wish we had some pictures of us riding our bikes home. A Go-pro might have been fun there :-). We set up camp and called it a day.
