Friday we drove to the Liard hot springs state park where they had very nice hot springs bathing set up. Today was or first real wildlife viewing day. We saw a bear, some mountain goats, some very large bison right next to our campground, and a moose next to the hot springs. Wednesday we drove about 5 hours to Dawson Creek and the beginning of the Alaska highway. It was a cool little nothing town that was established as the Canadian side of the first highway to Alaska. Tuesday we left for our next stop, a small town just past Jasper national park. We drove past some incredible scenery and some beautiful glaciers. Jamie came in on Saturday and Sunday was mostly a down day. On Monday we drove out to the town of Banff and had a nice lunch and walked around the town. The night of the 24th was spent in Arco, Id where we went to Craters of the moon national park. Basically a place with a bunch of lava rock that someone decided looks like the moon. It was ok. Monday we left Vegas but first stopped to have the rv serviced in preparation for our Alaska adventure. Friday we went to the Hoover dam and took a tour. Very impressive. Then that evening it was cinco de mayo so what better place to spend it then Freemont St. in Vegas. That place is crazy enough but cinco de mayo really brought out the kooks as you can see from the pics. We started with margaritas at an outside bar people watching then walked around. Thursday I played golf at Wolf Creek gc in Mesquite, Nv. About an hour fifteen northeast of Vegas. It’s one of my top 100 US courses coming in at number 66 in the 2016 golf magazine ratings. What a spectacular course. The pictures don’t really do it justice. It was nestled between beautiful mountains and the course played up and down some very large hills. Saturday we flew up to nj to visit Brian, Winnie and of course Gigi. It was a beautiful day so we ended up taking Gigi to the boardwalk. She had a great time and even went on her first ride on the train with mom and dad. We got home and grandma fed her and she fell asleep in grandma’s arms. Tuesday we leave for Vegas. About halfway there we get this horrible sulfur smell in the rv. I pull over concerned something is wrong and walk all around outside looking in all the compartments but there’s no smell outside, only inside. Unable to find anything wrong we continue on and it last for about another 15 minutes or so. We had to stop at an rv dealer to have our shower door adjusted and I mention it to the guy….
Monday we were leaving for Vegas but had heard about some caves called the grand canyon caverns that were just under halfway there with an rv park so we decided to spend the night and check them out. They had numerous different tours from a very basic walk through along paved paths to a very intense tour climbing through narrow passages into parts of the cave many people don’t get to see. Woke up the next morning at for a 6:30 breakfast and back on the trail at 7 for another 6 hour ride, this time uphill. I personally found uphill to be better than down but the trail (a different one then on the way down) was still narrow with sharp switchbacks and steep drops. And my mule still enjoyed scaring me.
