Back to Austin

Back to Austin

Sunday was a down day but Monday we hit Austin with the kids. First stop was to click off another of our “best sandwiches in America” spots. This one was the Noble Pig in Austin and won the southwest division with there seared beef tongue sandwich. It was good but not the best of the places we’ve hit in the bracket so far.

From there it was a trip down memory lane for Jamie. First we hit the Oasis. A bar/restaurant on Lake Travis, one of Jamie’s old stomping grounds. They had a “lover’s lock lane”, a gimic to get you to buy a lock for 10 times what it’s worth and write on it and attach it to their railing. Oops, did I say gimic? I meant it was a beautifully romantic ceremony in which you write on a lock and lock your love in forever on their railing of love. Anyway, the girls enjoyed themselves with it.

Then it was on to see the University of Texas, Jamie’s old alma mater. On the way we paused for some pics of Jamie and Ashley sitting in a bed of blue bonnets, the Texas state flower that only blooms for a short time in the spring. One of Jamie’s favorite flowers. They wanted to recreate a pic they had from when Ashley was a baby. We drove by her old dorms and finished off at the bar she so proudly has been carried home from in the days of her youth. Apparently it’s been around for a very long time. Then we hit 6th street for some live music and finished off at Stub’s BBQ for dinner.
