Sedona

Sedona

Jamie went to training the next couple of days while Jim played some golf. He played at two beautiful courses, Troon North in Phoenix and Wickenburg Ranch halfway between Phoenix and Prescott. Jamie returned from training on the 23rd and we drove up to Sedona to spend the night. Sedona was an interesting, what I’d call “yuppie” town. It was full of holistic health types of places and chic little restaurants. We had breakfast at one then headed up to…

Jerome

Jerome

Today we drove to the tiny town of Jerome. It was a thriving mining town in the late 1800’s that went bust when the mines shut down in the 1950’s. It then became a ghost town for many years until it was revived and turned into a great little town where real estate prices have sky rocketed and great little establishments have popped up. We had lunch at the Asylum restaurant at the Palace hotel, an old hospital turned hotel…

Leaving Vegas

Leaving Vegas

A miracle, we finally left Vegas! Jamie finally got released from physical therapy and off we went. First stop was northeast Arizona which was an area we hadn’t been to. We found a beautiful campgroundin Prescott with plans to stay about a week and visit Prescott, Jerome and Sedona. Unfortunately Jamie got a last minute assignment for training so she could get requalified for work. It put a minor dent in our plans but we made the best of it….

Zumanity

Zumanity

Tuesday night we had tickets to Zumanity, a burlesque type cirque de sole show. We took advantage of another of our free nights and stayed at the Paris hotel. $39. We got an early check in and got an upgraded room with a beautiful view using Jim’s “high roller” platinum status lol. Hung out at the pool for a few hours, had a great dinner at a steakhouse in the New York hotel and went to the show. It was…

Valley of Fire

Valley of Fire

The next day we took a ride to another park featuring red rock. This one was called Valley of Fire. After Red Rock I wasn’t getting my hopes up but this one turned out to be much more interesting and beautiful. It was almost a bit like Zion with cool rock formations and beautiful colors. They also had one rock formation with stairs way up high to some petroglyphs. Jamie did pretty well climbing all the way up those stairs…

Whiskey Pete’s

Whiskey Pete’s

We said goodbye to Jess and Gunther and Jim went to work. When he got back we decided to take a ride to a town called Primm, on the border of California and Nevada where we had passed two casinos while travelling on 15 between Los Angeles and Vegas. What piqued or interest was that there were two old time looking casinos called Buffalo Bill’s and Whiskey Pete’s that looked like they were from the old west . One boasted…

The Michael Jackson Live show

The Michael Jackson Live show

The other highlight of the week was going to the MJ live show. This was a Michael Jackson impersonator that blew us away. He looked like Michael, he sounded like Michael, and he danced like Michael. This was a fabulous show and another on my must see list. Click on the picture above to see the videos.

The Hofbrauhaus

The Hofbrauhaus

May 16-21 our friends Jess and Gunther came for a visit. We had a great time casino hopping, hitting some great restaurants, and one day at the Flamingo pool with a cabana. One of the highlights of the week was our dinner at the Hafbrauhaus, a German restaurant where Jim and Gunther took their shots a playing the long horns. Those are trumpet type instruments that are about 15′ long. At first neither of them could make a sound blowing…

Our trip to Michigan

Our trip to Michigan

The rest of April was spent with Jim working and playing golf and Jamie starting physical therapy. And a few trips to the casino. We also discovered the benefits of casino rewards cards. When the Murphy’s came to town they were staying at the Flamingo which is a Caesar’s property. Jamie got a discounted hotel stay with her rewards card so we decided to stay there too. While we were checking in they had deal that if you signed up…

Lake Havasu

Lake Havasu

The beginning of April our friends, the Murphy’s, came out. We spent a couple days with them in Vegas then we all drove to Lake Havasu to meet with our other friends, Jeff and Monica. We took our motor home and Tiff and Lori stayed in Jeff and Monica’s rv. Lake Havasu is a little town in the middle of nowhere. But it became famous because a developer actually purchased the original London bridge and brought to the US and…

St. Patrick’s Day on Freemont Street

St. Patrick’s Day on Freemont Street

St. Patrick’s Day at Freemont street. Yep, sounds right up our alley. Walking around and watching all the crazies. After a couple of pre dinner green beers listening to some great life music we decided to continue the craziness by eating at the Heart Attack grill. Yep, you heard me right. Their burgers are called bypass burgers and range from a single party to the ultimate octuple bypass burger with 8 patties, cheese, tomato and onion. You get something if…

Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon

We heard Red rock canyon was a must see but I have to say it was a bit of a disappointment. A bunch of rocks (like we haven’t seen lots of those, lol) some of which were a reddish color, a small area of petroglyphs, some rock climbers and that’s about it. But it was a nice day and it was good to get out and walk around a bit. Jamie is finally out of her boot and able to…

The mob museum

The mob museum

Today we went to the mob museum. We weren’t sure what to expect of this one but it turned out to be alot of fun. They had all kinds of displays from weapons used by mobsters and “g-men”, wanted posters, a display from the St. Valentine’s day massacre including part of the wall with bullet holes in it, a photo wall of lots of mobsters with their pictures and stories and numerous other displays. They also had two interactive mock…

Hell’s Kitchen

Hell’s Kitchen

Wednesday we went to Hell’s Kitchen, Gordon Ramsay’s new restaurant at Caesars. From what we heard it was a copy of the restaurant on his Hell’s Kitchen show right down to the red and blue team competition and drama. The head chef was even the winner of the previous season. To our disappointment the place was set up somewhat like the show but without the competition and drama and the head chef was off that night so we didn’t even…

Grand Canyon Skywalk

Grand Canyon Skywalk

Today we drove to the west rim of the Grand Canyon to go the skywalk. It’s on an Indian reservation so you go in and park your car and are bussed throughout the park. There are three sections, sections, a ranch that’s a old mock up of an Indian town and ranch, a grand canyon view point, and the main attraction is the skywalk. It’s a horseshoe shaped, glass floored walk that extends 70′ out over the grand canyon and…

January in Vegas

January in Vegas

Most of January was spent with Jamie recovering and Jim working and playing lots of golf. There are some beautiful golf courses in Vegas. We also decided to make the best of our stay and see as much of Vegas as we could. But with Jamie kind of out of commission January was a low key month with not a lot to write about. We did do a couple of trips to the strip so I threw some pics of…

New Year’s Eve 2017

New Year’s Eve 2017

Jamie got her cast off December 30, just in time to bring in the New Year. We started with a great dinner at the Capital Grill overlooking the Vegas strip. From there we strolled along the strip stopping in various bars and enjoying people watching. We ended up home to watch the ball drop and bring in the New Year. The next day we hit the strip and went to the High roller ferris wheel, the tallest ferris wheel in…

Australia and updating our status

Australia and updating our status

It’s been a while since I’ve posted but that’s because we haven’t had much going on that’s blog worthy. But I figured I’d update our status just to stay current. We left Utah for Vegas October 17. We originally planned to stay for 2 months but Jamie had been having a lot of pain in her feet so she decided to see a doctor in Vegas. Turned out she had torn tendons in both her feet. Between her life of…

Golf in St. George

Golf in St. George

Monday I needed a golf day before leaving Utah because I was told some of Utah’s nicest courses were in St. George. I went to one recommended to me called Sand Hollow. It was as very nice course and I ended up getting paired up with some great guys. Jamie didn’t play as her legs were acting up from all the hiking. As it turns out she went to the doctor and she has a torn tendon. We have no…
