Deception pass

Deception pass

Sunday we had a down day. Really made down as I watched my dolphins lose a very winnable game against a very good team. Monday we slept in then went for a hike around deception pass. Named by some sailor years ago because he thought it was a waterway that lead out to the sea but wasn’t. Something like that. The hike was nice and the bridge was cool, very high and narrow. After that we went out and had…

Olympic Peninsula-Port Townsend

Olympic Peninsula-Port Townsend

Last night I wasn’t feeling that great and I woke up today feeling the same. So we headed home but on the way made a couple of stops. First was at a lavender farm. I guess that’s popular here. Jamie got some soaps and air fresheners and oil for our diffuser. All of which I have to admit I liked too. Next stop was in the town of Port Townsend where we catch the ferry home. We walked around for…

Golf at the Peninsula Golf Club

Golf at the Peninsula Golf Club

Today Jamie booked us a tee time at a semi private club that looked like it would be pretty nice. Well we got there and it looked pretty dry and disappointing. We tried calling another place that was recommended to us but they had a tournament going on. So we made the best of it and actually had a great time. There was no one ahead of us and no one behind and the course wasn’t in that bad a…

Olympic Peninsula-Cape Flattery & Hoh rain forest

Woke up for breakfast today which was served at 9:00. A little early for Jamie but she made it, lol. It was superb. I had some kind of butternut squash pancakes that were some of the best pancakes I ever had and Jamie had eggs with spinach and hollandaise sauce that were also superb. After breakfast we checked out and headed for Cape Flattery, the furthest northwest point in the 48 states. Another mile hike out to the tip on…

Olympic Peninsula – Hurricaine Ridge & Marymer

Olympic Peninsula – Hurricaine Ridge & Marymer

Yesterday was a planning and admin day. I handeled some of our administrative stuff and handed over the planning of our week to Jamie. So the next day we put Jamie’s plan to action. We headed over to Olympic peninsula via the ferry. We weren’t aware if this but apparently you can take your motor home on it. We even met another couple pulling their 2016 pace arrow so we swapped some stories and advice. After passing through port Townsend…

NAS Whidbey Island

NAS Whidbey Island

We capped off our work week on Saturday by meeting my sister, brother-in-law and mother at Foxwoods casino in Connecticut for my mom’s birthday. We had a great time with them and everyone went home with money except yours truly. Lucky me. We got back to Washington and spent one more night at McChord before leaving for a campground at Whidbey Island naval air station. Finally, some good luck in Washington! We read great reviews of the place and it…

Drive to McChord AFB

Drive to McChord AFB

On to Seattle. So I have to say that Washington hasn’t been very kind to us so far. Starting with Spokane where we arrived at Fairchild Afb with no host around, but a sign saying take any empty spot. So we got all settled into the only empty spot when the host finally returned and approached us to say sorry but that one is reserved for an active duty person but a spot would be opening tomorrow and we could…

Back to Spokane

Back to Spokane

We spent the next week working. Jamie ended up doing two trips in a row so after I finished my trip I flew out to San Francisco to hang out with her in between her trips since I had to two flights to get to Spokane anyway. It took her two days to get a trip so we hung out in San Fran for a couple days. She got a trip Wednesday so I headed back to Spokane. I picked…

Winery in Spokane

Winery in Spokane

Thursday we dropped the rv off at a dealer for some minor warrantee work and a couple of upgrades we wanted. Checked into a hotel and went out exploring Spokane. I stopped for a haircut while Jamie jumped on her phone for some research. It was about 4:15 by then and she came across a winery that looked kind of cool but closed at 5. We were only ten minutes away so we figured we’d check it out. Well we…

On to Spokane and Fairchild AFB

On to Spokane and Fairchild AFB

We finally left Montana after a month there. As usual ended up staying much longer than planned. We drove to Fairchild AFB and set up camp at their rv park. Another very nice military camp for $20/night. We spent most of Wednesday trying to set up our new satellite tv that we decided to get. I was able to get it working but set up was not at all like I envisioned it. The rv was wired for satellite but…

Kayaking and golf

Kayaking and golf

Sunday we hit the beach at Whitefish lake for a relaxing day and brought our kayak along. Was a beautiful day spent relaxing on the beach and kayaking a couple hours around the lake. Monday we hit the only golf course in Montana that made golf magazine’s top 100 public courses. We had a great start. I thought the route was pretty simple and I decided not to use my gps to get there. We ended up a half hour…

Mountain biking

Mountain biking

Sunday was mountain biking day. Well this was an eye opener. Did I say I didn’t need a bicycle instructor? Yeah, ok. He started off showing us how to brake, steer, stay up on our feet on the pedals, blah blah blah. Then the fun began. We hit our first “easy” run. Down some steep slopes, around some descending hairpin turns on loose dirt and gravel, all along narrow paths that actually were bordered by some steep drops if you…

On to Whitefish

On to Whitefish

I’m combining a bunch of posts here because I didn’t take any pictures for a few days. Our last day in Polson we headed to Flathead lake with our inflatable kayak and kayaked around the lake for three hours. We were actually trying to go to some island called horse island where there are some wild horses running around but after an hour and a half we ended up at the wrong island! Fortunately Jamie packed us some “rationings” so…

Jim’s flight and the national bison range

Jim’s flight and the national bison range

All week I kept seeing this ultralight amphibious plane flying around and so I asked about it and it turns out the guy is from Phoenix but he’s up here giving rides and trying to sell planes. Well I couldn’t resist of course so here are my go pro videos. No, that wasn’t my landing, lol. After that we took a ride to the national bison range park where bison, goats, deer and bear wander. Didn’t see any bear (think…

Glacier national park

Glacier national park

Today we went to Glacier national park. What a beautiful park. We drove around a bit. Followed the “road to the sun” about half way across the park from West to East. And did a couple of hikes, bear spray and bells in hand lol. We probably hiked about 5 miles that day and loved it. Click on the picture above to see the rest of the pictures.

Polson car show

Polson car show

They had a car show in Polson today so we gave ourselves somewhat of a down day and went to the show. It was actually pretty good. They even a ’69 firebird, my first car! There was also a very cool totally decked out truck I took a bunch of pictures of. Of course, I didn’t get anything else on film, lol. Great day except Jamie got stung by a bee on her finger. Poor thing, scared the **** out…

Our drive to Polson, Mt

Our drive to Polson, Mt

We stayed two more nights in Great Falls before leaving for Polson rv resort in Polson, Montana and Glacier National Park. On the way we stopped at a cool trading post where Jamie purchased the bear bells she so proudly demonstrates. They are supposed to be used so bears hear you coming and don’t get startled. I think it’s a dinner bell. What a beautiful resort Polson resort is. Gabby, our new rv (so dubbed by or granddaughter, Cadence) was…

Back to Great Falls after a long 2 weeks

Back to Great Falls after a long 2 weeks

The last two weeks were spent knocking out our work for the month. Like I said in the last post Jamie left for work on the 27th and I left on the 29th and we finally returned to Montana on August 10. During our trip we attended Brent’s white coat ceremony for his induction into med school. It was wonderful. We also found out a little later that Ashley is going back to school for medical administration. They also recently…

On to Montana!

On to Montana!

We left Idaho on the 24th and headed to Great Falls, Montana for the first stop on our way to Alaska. We’ll be staying here a couple weeks while we go to work and attend Brent’s induction ceremony into medical school. I have to say, Montana is beautiful. The mountains, lakes and rivers are spectacular. We stopped at a tiny little town called Ennis for lunch on the way. We then made our way to Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls….

The Dunes of St. Anthony, Id

The Dunes of St. Anthony, Id

We returned from work and headed to St. Anthony, Idaho to meet up with the crazy Murphy’s and McElyea’s for some wild riding over the sand dunes in their Polaris razors. We had a blast! We had to cover our eyes and faces due to all the sand being kicked up by razors in front of you. Jamie finally got up the nerve to drive one (the only girl to do so I might add) and unfortunately now she wants…
