Arriving in Colorado Springs

We pulled into the Air Force Academy campground for 2 jam packed days in Colorado Springs, Co. We both had to work and we had to get the rv somewhere while we were both gonna be away for almost 2 weeks and they didn’t have availability there for that long so 2 days were all we could work out. Day 1 we hit 4 places. I have them listed separately in their own posts because each was worthy of quite a few pictures. But first on the list was a trip to the base club for a well earned beer after the long drive and setting up the campground. They had a large function going on which apparently was a meet and greet for new professors. We met the Commandant of Academics, a Brigadier General and were invited to partake in the food being served but we thanked him and said we had other plans.
We found Colorado Springs had one of our Diner, Dives and Drive-Ins called Frontage BBQ. They had a husband and wife from New Orleans singing and we had a great meal and enjoyed the entertainment. Then we walked around town checking out the little shops and restaurants. We went by an Italian restaurant called Dat’s Italian that smelled so good we had to stop in and check out their menu. There was a couple sitting up front that said they had the lasagna and it was amazing. We definitely kept that thought in our back pockets.

First on the list for day 1 was the Royal Gorge. This is a canyon carved out by the Arkansas river that is over 1000’ deep. It’s kind of unique in that it’s pretty deep but not very wide. In 1929 they built what at the time was the world’s highest suspension bridge. They also have a bunjee jump over the gorge as well as zip lining, which we were gonna do but the line was too long and we had lots to get in that day.
