Arrival in Lima and morning in Cusco

After a weekend visiting our friends Bubba and Kim in Houston we set off for Lima, Peru with our friends Tiff and Lori. We got there about 11 pm and headed to the hotel for a couple night caps then off to bed for an early wake up.

We boarded an 8:30 flight for Cusco and were greeted at the airport by a costumed welcoming party who sang and danced and offered tea with coca leaves which are supposed to help with altitude sickness. I was told they’re from cocaine plants but since I haven’t been drug tested since getting back that rumor didn’t get tested. We were picked up by our tour guide, Luis, and shuttled to our hotel and given the next few hours off to settle in and relax. They obviously weren’t warned about us. Relax? Yeah ok. We headed out to the square for some drinks and to watch the teacher’s march in protest over wages. Had lunch consisting of guinea pig. Yes, you read that right. It happens to be a local favorite. It wasn’t bad just not very meaty as you can imagine.

I’m gonna break today into morning and afternoon since I have so many pictures.
