Antelope Island and the Shooting Star Saloon
Wednesday we took a ride to an Island outside of Salt Lake called Antelope Island. Wasn’t anything real special but we did see a bunch of bison as they have a herd of over 500 of them. Besides that there was a ranch we visited that was established in 1848 that we checked out along with walking down the beach to the Salt Lake. So basically just kind of a nature day.
After that we took a ride to the town of Huntsville to a saloon someone recommended to us called the Shooting Star Saloon. We were told this is the oldest continually running bar east of the Mississippi but I’ll just go with in Utah. Either way it opened up in 1878 and it looks like it, lol. But in a good way. It still holds the same look and charm I imagine it did when it first opened. The place was decorated with lots of cool and unusual stuff including the head of a St. Bernard that died in 1957 and at the time held the Guiness book of world records as the largest St. Bernard recorded at 298 pounds. The menu is very small but we shared the Shooting Star burger which was 2 patties, a polish sausage, cheese and who knows what else was in there. It really was very good. Definitely on my recommend list.
