Afternoon in Cusco
After lunch we met up with Luis to begin our tours. First was the ruins of Tambomachay. They don’t really know what this site was originally used for but here’s a website if you want to read about it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tambomachay. Up and down some hills and stairs and poor Jamie was done. The guide actually told us later he was concerned about her making the hike to Macho Picchu. But she was just jet lagged and maybe a little affected by the lunchtime drinking lol. After a short rest she was able to continue the tour.
Our next stop was the ruins at Saksaywaman, or sexy woman as Luis liked to call it. Jamie got renewed energy and made it through this one just fine. Saksaywaman was a Citidel that began construction around 1100 and continued to be added to for the next 100 years or so. Here’s the website for that.

Finally we headed back to Cusco for a tour of the Cusco Cathedral and Temple Qorikancha, also known as the convent of Santo Domingo. Here are the stories about those two.

The cathedral was especially spectacular. I’ve been to many cathedrals around the world and this was definitely up there. It was twice as big inside as it looked from the outside and the construction and carvings were amazing. Unfortunately they don’t allow any photos taken inside so there are only pictures of the outside. By the time we hit the temple we were pretty well done. So we spent about a half hour there and waved the white flag. You can see some pictures of the inside on this website: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo/cusco-cathedral-interior.html
After those tours we found a great place to have dinner at the Palacio del Inka hotel. Beautiful place, great service, great food even served with silver platters on top. We had another local favorite, alpaca, which is a smaller version of a llama. Then it was off to bed.
