Whale watching

Whale watching

Not giving us any time to recover from our trips the next day we met Jim’s sister, Sue, and her friend Sara in Portsmouth, NH for a whale watching trip. We met at noon for lunch at a waterfront cafĂ© then on to the boat for a 2:00 trip.

The weather was beautiful and it was about an hour ride to where the whales tend to hang out. On the way we passed a group of islands called the Isle of Shoals. There is a marine research facility there that also has educational programs for high schoolers along with college programs. One of the islands has a hotel.

We arrived at our destination and were right away greeted by numerous whales putting on a display. We spent a good 2 hours watching them but time past by very quickly as we thoroughly enjoyed the show. All the whales had been named as they have been coming here for years in the summer and the guides were able to point out each one by name. They also gave us a nice education on whales and answered all our questions.

We headed back ashore and Sue and Sara came back to the campground with us and spent 2 days hanging out before we departed Maine for Cape Cod.
