Bisbee, Az, the mine and Warren ballpark

Bisbee, Az, the mine and Warren ballpark

Today we hit two old west mining towns. The first was called Bisbee, a sleepy old town that’s kind of turned artsy. We walked around a bit, had lunch, then went into their mine for a tour. You take a little train that takes you deep into the mine and down a couple hundred feet. They give you an interesting talk on how they break through the rock using a combination of manual and air driven tools and, of course, dynamite. You can definitely see how dangerous a job it was.
After the mine tour Jamie found out the oldest baseball field in the country was only a couple miles away. It’s called Warren ballpark built in 1909. Some of the major league teams played exhibition games here include the Chicago Cubs, White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Giants, Cleveland Indians and Philadelphia Athletics.
I’m breaking the day into two parts because I have so many pictures and the stories deserve two entries.
