Great Lakes Naval Air Station
We left St. Louis for Chicago and Great Lakes Naval air station, which is about 45 minutes north of Chicago. Amazingly that campground was about as close to Chicago as we could find. Once again we found ourselves in the front row right on Lake Michigan. And once again it’s been raining. Not as bad as Missouri but we are still getting flood warnings. This time, though, I’m not concerned about the lake reaching our site. There’s a nice rock wall protecting the campground and it’s high enough that we “should” be ok.
Two days after arriving there we had to go to work so I gave us a day of rest the day after arriving. Jamie was appreciative. But after we got back it was time to get back to work. There wasn’t a whole lot to see in the area we were staying in so we did a 2 night trip to Milwaukee, about an hour away. We got a late start so we didn’t do too much the first day. We did find a nice beer garden right along a river and shared a hot pretzel and brat and some great German beer.
Jim did a little research and found a great little bar called the Safehouse. It was spy themed and if you didn’t know the password to get in they made you do some silly thing which is televised inside the bar for all to see. Not sure how to get the password or even if there really is one so we played the game and went in. The video at the end of the post shows what another group had to do. The place was huge with separate rooms and spy themed decor throughout. After that we just had some bar food at a local brewery and called it a night. But not before posing with the Fonz.
