Sand duning in Glamis, Ca

Sand duning in Glamis, Ca

Sand duning in Glamis, Ca Phoenix, AZ Phoenix, AZ After we got back from work we decided to meet our friends Tiff, Lori, Jeff and Monica in Glamis, Ca for some razor riding in the sand dunes. Jeff and Monica’s spare razor was out of commission so we were gonna rent one till I found out it was $1000/day. So we did a little riding and just hung out. The pictures don’t do the dunes justice. They were huge. We…

Off to work, but first a stop to see the kids

Off to work, but first a stop to see the kids

Thursday Jamie had to go to work. I didn’t have to work till Friday but since I had to drop Jamie off I decided to go to NJ a day early and visit the kids. I fed Gigi and her and I feel asleep on the couch together. It was a nice moment. Unfortunately it ended up being a short visit as I had to go to work the next day. Trying to manage work, our trip and family visits…

Getting together with Roy

Getting together with Roy

I guess the LPGA tournament really got Jamie excited appt golf cuz she wanted to play both Tuesday and Wednesday. We played both days at a local course called Wigwam. We played two of their three courses. Tuesday night we went to dinner at a local German restaurant called Haus Murphy’s, which was featured on diners, dives and drive-ins. It was so so. We were also joined by my friend Roy, from Nj who I haven’t seen in probably 15…

Nascar race

Nascar race

Sunday we went to our first, and last lol, NASCAR race. It was a fun experience but that one is now ticked off our list. Colt Ford performed before the race which was fun and F-15s from Luke AFB did a fly over. We decided NASCAR fans are probably who got Trump voted in. Jim’s sister tried helping us with ticket selection since they’ve been to quite a few races. We tried to get tickets that would be out of…

Work and St. Patrick’s day

Work and St. Patrick’s day

Saturday Jamie dropped me off for work and she headed to work on Sunday. I was supposed to return Tuesday but a snow storm in the northeast delayed me two days. I took some pictures of the mountains in Afghanistan. We rarely get to see them because we’re usually flying over then at night but since we were delayed that flight was flown during the daytime. Some of those peaks are almost 20,000′. Friday was St. Patrick’s day and we…

Coldwater GC

Coldwater GC

After the game we stopped at a golf store and got Jamie some new clubs. The ones she had were from China and although they said for women they were more for men and too heavy for her. Then of course we had to go out and play on Friday to try them out. Again, she played very well for a beginner and she’s really coming along. Beautiful course and beautiful day. I don’t know why some of my blog…

On to Phoenix and baseball spring season

On to Phoenix and baseball spring season

We finally left Tucson and headed to Phoenix. Not much of a move. Just a couple hours drove. We really enjoyed Tucson and plan to go back next winter but it was tome to move on before, God forbid, we establish roots somewhere. Found a very nice campground just west of Phoenix in Goodyear, Az. called Leaf Verde and got settled in. They have a bunch of spring training facilities here so on Thursday we went to watch the cubs…

Tubac Golf course. Where they filmed Tin Cup

Tubac Golf course. Where they filmed Tin Cup

Sunday we played golf at Tubac golf course. One of the places where they filmed the movie Tin Cup, with Kevin Costner, Jamie’s true love. Nothing really exciting about the pictures or the course except the movie was partially filmed there. But it was a nice course and we met a nice couple from Alaska that we played with. You can click on the title to see the pics.

The Desert museum

The Desert museum

On the 4th we went to the Desert museum and Old Tucson. First we went to the desert museum. I didn’t have very high expectations for some reason but I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it. We saw wolves, coyotes, mountain lions, bobcats, ocelots, some pig thing I’ve never seen before called a Javelina, and many other animals. They also had a cool cactus garden. Never realized how many different varieties of cacti there were. After the Desert museum…

Old Tuscon

Old Tuscon

The second half of our day we went to old Tucson which is a small town built as a movie set for westerns that was used from the 40’s to the 90’s. They had a museum with all kinds of artifacts from many of the movies filmed here but I guess I didn’t take any pictures of that stuff. Oops. But there were clothes and props from the films. Lots of famous actors and actresses filmed here. There were 18…

Kartchner Caves

Kartchner Caves

We both went to work from Sunday to Wednesday and on Friday we went to Kartchner caves which were discovered in 1974 for an awesome cave tour. Unfortunately they don’t allow cameras so I had to download the pictures. But we saw everything I posted. In April they close a large part of the caves because this is one of the few birthing caves for bats. They have something like 2000 bats that fly nest here to have their babies….
