On the 21st I dropped Jamie off at the airport to go to Michigan to be with her mom while she underwent some surgery. It went well and she’s doing great. I played golf again today while Jamie went and got her nails done. After that we went to the Cattleman’s Steakhouse, which is in the middle of nowhere but has been rated in the top ten in the US. They’ve also filmed numerous movies there like Lone Wolf McQuade, The Day After Tomorrow, Extreme Prejudice, Courage Under Fire and others. Today we drove about an hour to a place called Messilla. We were told it was a must see and was where Billy the Kid was tried and sentenced to be hung. We left Big Bend enroute to El Paso and our first real glitch of the trip. We got about 60 miles east of El Paso and the engine started sputtering and we couldn’t get above 25 mph. So we pulled over at an exit in the middle of nowhere with practically no cell service and called Good Sam, our roadside service. Today we went to Big Bend National Park. It had some beautiful and some interesting sights. Among the beautiful, of course, was the scenery but also some nice hiking trails including on part of the park where the Rio Grande was very shallow and you could walk across into Mexico and hike a trail up a large hill to a river on the other side. We were told about a small border crossing into a small town in Mexico that you access from within Big Bend called Boquillas. That sounded adventurous and fun so today we trekked off for there. Short entry today because we didn’t do much. Jim played golf while Jamie did some housework and then laid out at the pool. But I felt this entry was worth posting for my golf buddies as this course was beautiful. It’s right on the Rio Grande amidst beautiful mountains. Woohoo, finally got out of Corpus Christi! Not that we minded Corpus but damn is it windy there! We left Corpus on 4/10 heading for Lajitas, Tx in Big Bend National Park with an overnight in our old standby Walmart in the garden spot of Del Rio, Tx. Was a decent enough place to stop on the way. I know it’s been a while since my last post. We spent the last 2 weeks working and attending our son’s wedding. Jamie left on March 26th to fly two trips out of San Francisco before the wedding and I left on the 27th for a trip to Mumbai.
