On to Corpus Christi!

On to Corpus Christi!

We dropped Brent and Ashley off at the airport today and hit the road for Corpus Christi and the CCNAS. Corpus Christi Naval Air Station for you civilians, lol. One thing for sure, it is crazy windy here. No way we’re putting out the awning or chairs or anything. In fact, I’m hoping the motorhome doesn’t blow away, lol. It is a nice campsite, though. Right on the water with decent sized sites. Wish we could be facing the water…

Back to Austin

Back to Austin

Sunday was a down day but Monday we hit Austin with the kids. First stop was to click off another of our “best sandwiches in America” spots. This one was the Noble Pig in Austin and won the southwest division with there seared beef tongue sandwich. It was good but not the best of the places we’ve hit in the bracket so far. From there it was a trip down memory lane for Jamie. First we hit the Oasis. A…

Back to Gruene

Back to Gruene

Saturday we took Ashley and Brent back to Gruene. They had their monthly flea market so the girls were in there glory. Fortunately, they also had recreation for the boys. Gruene Hall had a band playing from 1-5. They were a bluesy type band and were fantastic. The lead singer and guitarist was Murali Coryell, who Brent was actually familiar with. He plays mostly small venues but has opened up for some pretty big names like George Thorogood, Greg Allman…

San Antonio Natural Bridge and Caves

San Antonio Natural Bridge and Caves

Today we hit the Natural bridge caverns and caves in San Antonio. They are the largest caverns you can get into in Texas. They also had a 60′ high adventure rope course that we all went on. Brent as a little fear of heights but he powered through it anyway. We were pretty impressed that he did it. After the caves Jamie searched for a good Mexican restaurant (I know, tough assignment in San Antonio lol) and she hit jackpot….

Alamo and San Antonio River Walk

Alamo and San Antonio River Walk

Today we moved from Fort Sam Houston to Riverwalk RV park also in San Antonio. We decided to stay longer in San Antonio and Fort Sam Houston didn’t have any sites available to extend. Also, Ashley and Brent came down to join us. In the move, Jim messed up his back. Not exactly on the agenda but it didn’t keep us from hitting the road for some St. Patrick’s Day fun and exploring. First stop was the Alamo. I think…

Still in San Antonio

Still in San Antonio

It’s been a while since my last post. For starters Jamie brought Cadence home and then we both went to work. I got back on the 10th and Jamie got home the 11th. Unfortunately, she also came home with the stomach flu. It basically decommissioned her for 3 days and she still isn’t 100 percent. But she fought through and yesterday, the 14th, we headed up to Austin for a little R&R. We went to the Omni Barton Creek resort…

Cadence Gets Baptized!

Cadence Gets Baptized!

Today was an interesting day. Jamie and her friend Kim took Cadence to church when we were in Houston and she was very curious about the whole religion thing. Not sure how baptism came up but she kept insisting she wanted to get baptized. She also wanted to go back to church. The two of them called her mom while she was with us and again Cadence brought it up during the conversation and Jamie asked what she thought about…

Saturday in San Antonio – Cadence Needed a Down Day

Saturday in San Antonio – Cadence Needed a Down Day

Friday we packed up and hit the road for San Antonio and set up camp at the rv park at Fort Sam Houston Army base. Barbecued and finished off with smores. Saturday we were gonna go to Sea World today but Cadence just wanted to stay at home and veg. One thing I will say about Fort Sam Houston is they have a ton of playgrounds for the kids. We took her to one in the morning and a different…

Thursday in Houston.

Thursday in Houston.

I’ll keep this one short as there’s not much exciting so I won’t bore you too much. Jamie, Kim and Cadence had a girls day at the park and Kim’s house. Jim went golfing with Kim’s stepdad, Clem, at a course he’s been wanting to play called Tour 18, where they have replicas of many of the tours most famous holes throughout the country. Finished off the day with a bunch of us going out to dinner for some crawfish!….

Wednesday at the Rodeo

Wednesday at the Rodeo

Wednesday we donned our cowboy boots and hats and headed to the Houston rodeo. This was nothing like the one in Dallas. It was held at the Houston Texans stadium and was pretty amazing. They had bronco riding, bull riding, cow lassoing and steer wrestling where they chase down a steer, jump off their horse and try and wrestle a steer to the ground. Oh and how could I forget the mutton busting. They had kids 5 and 6 years…

Tuesday in Houston – Girls Day and Golf for Jim

Tuesday in Houston – Girls Day and Golf for Jim

Today was a girls day for Jamie, Kim and Cadence. That means a day of shopping and lunch followed by Easter egg coloring and baking. For Jim, it was a day of golf. Jim got back to Bubba and Kim’s house to find Bubba working hard over his grill. We had a great BBQ that evening and, of course, Easter desserts. We headed back to the campground and Cadence set up her little fort under the dinette and passed out…
