From Lubec we headed back down the coast for an overnight in Bar Harbor. We arrived at our hotel mid afternoon, checked in and headed downtown. It was very busy there but we finally found a parking spot and decided to just walk around and get a lay of the land. It was a typical beachside town with lots of shopping and eating. We went in a couple of shots and Jamie could see it wasn’t doing anything for me so she dropped me off at a husband daycare spot where I could relax and have a beer. She came back to pickĀ me up after about an hour and we went to dinner.
The next day we got up and went to Acadia National Park. People are gonna hate me for this but after seeing so many national parks on our journey this was just another place with hills and trees. It was very pretty but nothing special. That being said, they have a very nice hike along the coast which we did. They also have a beach which based on the type of environment here is one of only a small number in the world of this type of beach. I didn’t quite follow the science of that one. What I did follow was there were lots of people swimming and although it was about 70 degrees out the water temperature was 50 something. We passed on that adventure.
After our hike we left Bar Harbor for our ride back to Portland. On the way we passed through Bangor because Jim read Stephen King’s house was kind of unique and easily viewable right from the street. Most famous/wealthy people have their home hidden from the public, understandably so, but I guess he’s in a rural enough area the people don’t disturb them too much. It wasn’t anything special but we did take a couple of pictures.
Also on the way home we stopped for dinner in another small seaside town called Wiscasset. There is a little lobster shack that is awarded best lobster roll year after year so we figured we needed to try it. We were prepared for a long wait as we had read lines are typically an hour long and that’s about what it was. It was very good with lots of lobster and we were glad we did it but we wouldn’t wait on that line again.
We made it back after a long and busy 3 days and were happy to be back in our home.
